Waxed floors will maintain it’s shine if care is taken during the maintenance period between seasons. Salt, chemicals such as bleach will strip the flooring of its shine. The following hints are very helpful in preserving a floor’s shine:

  • Do:
    • Mix chemicals according to label directions with “cool water” or “cold water” to keep the floor shine.
  • Do NOT:
    • Do not use “bleach” on waxed floors
    • Do not use “hot water” on wax floors

How To Clean Up Spills and Stains

Quick response is essential to spills and stains and choosing the appropriate cleaning materials

  • Act quickly.
  • Absorb as much of the stain or spill as soon as possible using a clean white cloth or paper blotting spot lightly to keep from forcing the stain into the carpet fibers and spreading it.
  • Select the right cleaner for the stain.
  • Testing a cleaning material in a place that is not obviously seen by all will help determine if the cleaner will do the job.
  • Apply a small amount of cleaner and work gently from the edges of the soiled area to the center to avoid spreading the spot or stain. Blot up moisture as you proceed. Never rub or scrub the stain.
  • Avoid getting the carpet too wet or over-soaking the carpet.
  • Dry carpet quickly by placing paper towels or a clean cloth material over the wet area. If necessary use, a fan or a hairdryer to help speed up the drying time, especially in humid weather.
  • When the area is completely dry, brush the area gently to restore the nap.
  • When in doubt about the removal of a particular stain, consult a professional carpet cleaner for advice.
